i've problems with reproducing the situation. in a woody chroot with
bindmounted /dev and /proc, losetup doesn't ask for a password:
# losetup -e serpent -k 128 /dev/loop0 /dev/vg00/test
#
normally it should ask for a password here. maybe i will find time to
install a full woody system on an old harddrive later, but currently i'm
too busy to further investigate this bug.
