yes, the testing package is equivalent to upstream snapshot (r238).
according to Hans-J. Ullrich and Harald Dunkel, it fixes the bug.

feel free to release new upstream version. if you want to wait for more
bugs being fixed, just tell me, and i'll upload the packages with
patches to debian.

by the way, did you already think about issue 53, the request for
support to remove already unplugged dm-crypt devices? dmsetup remove
works, but it would be great if cryptsetup would support it as well.
