Can your user test it with an usb stick so we can be sure that the
process would run correctly with a unencrypted swap file? As he says
that the whole disc (minus boot) is encrypted the boot process must
correctly unlock the disc in order to even boot. This means that
probably something with uswsusp resuming from this file does not work
correctly (just a wild guess by looking at
http://wiki.debian.org/Hibernation/Hibernate_Without_Swap_Partition the
name there is just /swap and not /swap.file...).
