We're using the BTS for bug status updates (and I'd encourage you to do
that rather than mailing the package maintainers directly :-P), so it
means that bug has been stalled for slightly over a year.

Am I correct that you your btrfs FS needs to be available at early boot
stage (eg, for the / or /usr mountpoints) and the underlying device(s)
does not use the device-mapper driver?  In that case,

    “IMHO the proper fix is to split initramfs integration into a
    separate package (cf.  #783297); then if you don't need cryptsetup
    initramfs integration you could just uninstall ‘cryptsetup-initramfs’.”
