[pkg-cryptsetup-devel] cryptsetup failed with code 22 invalid argument

Dear Maintainers

I keep getting the "error code 22 invalid arguments" for the seemingly
correct command
sudo cryptsetup open --type luks <device> <dmname> --key-file /root/luks.key
sudo cryptsetup luksOpen <device> <dmname> --key-file /root/luks.key
Package: cryptsetup-bin (2:1.7.3-4)

The command

cryptsetup luksFormat <device> --key-file /root/luks.key -q

output command successful.

Could someone please point me in the right direction? Anything I should
investigate?
