I agree.  That is how I handle my own personal package repositories.
will try and work on this some this week.  Though, for the sake of
convenience, I recommend placing a script under the debian/ directory
which goes out to the web and downloads the latest .orig.tar.gz in order
to facilitate the setup.  That way, it is not necessary to go online
hunting for files.  Another possibility would be to just commit the
entire .orig.tar.gz file to the repository, though I don't think this is
necessary.
