Problem sending to Alioth lists?

Alioth is doing a callout to verify that bounces can be delivered to
you. The error code should just defer the message until it can be
delivered, or until your mail queue gives up. If your mail queue gives
up immediately, it will cause a bounce to you no matter what. There are
other possible causes as well.

So make sure there is an MX that will accept messages to your envelope
address at least when your mail queue is being run, and make sure it
does queue properly. It's possible that alioth will make the callout to
the sending host (which would not be a good idea), or that your envelope
sender is not a deliverable address (likely, based on your description).
You'll have to debug a little to make your mail system work. You can
probably get advice on Debian-ISP.
