The reworking is actually initiated by upstream changes, which you'll
have to deal with if you want to update the package, even when making
your own personal version. The difference between the current Debian
version and the current upstream version is pretty large -- otherwise
we'd probably have made just a small update and made a release already.
Anyway, what you described in an earlier message is very useful: going
through the current Debian patches and seeing which ones are sensible
for the current upstream. It's actually one of the next steps on my
list, so if you can do this work and submit it to the pkg-cyrus-sasl2
list, it would be greatly appreciated, and it would be of general
usefulness!
