Dear maintainers,
Bug #628237 was filed some time ago against the openldap package because the
new upstream version of cyrus-sasl2 that was introduced into Debian in May
breaks the ABI for auxprop plugins without bumping the library soname. This
is not an appropriate way to manage shared library ABIs.
Discussion on bug #628237 in July suggested that 2.1.24 might still be under
development, and that it might be possible to get the soname fixed upstream
before release. However, it seems that in the meantime there have been two
new upstream releases and we now have 2.1.25 in unstable, so we're probably
stuck with this ABI now.
That means the Debian maintainers will need to clean up this upstream mess,
by one of the following methods:
- changing the soname locally in Debian
- changing the library package name to include a Debian suffix while
leaving the soname alone (and declaring a Conflicts with libsasl2-2)
- leaving the libsasl2-2 package name alone and declaring a versioned
Breaks: on packages in the archive which provide auxprop methods and are
built against the old ABI.
The third solution is probably the one that will cause the least knock-on
problems. For slapd, you can use 2.4.25-1.1 as the minimum fixed version
(i.e., Breaks: slapd (<< 2.4.25-1.1)).
