Sounds like everyone is pretty happy with the status-quo, so I guess let's
just shelve this idea for now.
I think Gudjon's suggestion to just use the umbrella "collab-maint" alioth
project as a repository for any people+packages that want do collaborative
SCM is an excellent one. This way, those who want to benefit from shared SCM
have the option, but we don't have to set anything up specifically for our
team, and no one is obliged to use something they find undesirable.
BTW, just a quick pitch for *personal* SCM:
Even if there is not a shared SCM, I do ALL my work using some sort of
SCM--even for quick & dirty hacks. With tools like Bzr, Hg, and Git (I prefer
them in that order) it's insanely simple and fast. Even if you are not
interested in using them for collaboration, they are incredibly useful just
to personally manage in-progress changes. If you don't already know how to
use one of these tools, I strongly recommend taking some time to learn how to
use one (or more) of them just for your own benefit. =)
