Well, why don't you check out the Debian version of gtkwave 3.2.0 when it's 
available later today and see if you still have trouble.

You are probably just be running into the known gtkwave build issue where 
_LARGEFILE_SOURCE isn't set correctly by configure (it sets 
_FILE_OFFSET_BIT to 64, but doesn't set _LARGEFILE_SOURCE, which breaks 
zlib).

The new Debian packge has this fixed.
