"Electronics" is non-standard, so you would want to add a:

Recommends: extra-xdg-menus

To the debian/control file. (extra-xdg-menus provides the right ".menu"
file(s) to display some non-standard categories).

(There is existing prescience, in geda, pcb and perhaps others.. I'm
slightly biased as I wrote the extra-xdg-menus package).
