I forwarded the question to geda-dev, to see what others thought, and
got no replies so far.

My inclination would be to remove it from the README, as you suggest.
I'm still not overly keen on providing a complete UI description in the
man-page though. 

Lets just add your manpage as-is to the Debian package.. better see it
packaged than spend ages worrying about the exact details of its
contents.

Hopefully I can take the manpage upstream before the next release, and
sort out some kind of balance between that, the GUI, and the README.
Whether that involves removing any of the GUI description, I'll defer to
a later discussion - including the other xgsch2pcb contributors (and the
original author of the README file) if I can reach him!
