I am not having any build problem from git, I am using git-buildpackage 
as follows:

$ git buildpackage --git-pbuilder

Probably the reason is that I have this setting in ~/.gbp.conf:

ignore-new = True

also I have these settings:

export-dir = ../build-area/
export = INDEX
