The problem is that upstream hasn't bothered to do a "release" in ages,
but there are "critical for my use" fixes in upstream git.  I'm
currently running build from head of upstream master as of 20120822, and
about to do a fresher build to see if a segfault I'm hitting using the
file/import functionality with a multi-page schematic has been fixed
since then.

I'm not sure what the best strategy is here.  Randomly packaging
upstream head and having that flow through to stable might or might not
make sense... but it's clear to me that we want/need something fresher
than a 2011 version of pcb in sid!

Sure.  Looks like I need to be added to the pkg-electronics group on
