That's awesome that you're interested and motivated! GHDL definitely needs some care.

However, there are several reason why development has stalled, and there are quite a few interested parties you'll certainly want to 
collaborate with, so please make sure you know the whole story about the current state of things between GHDL and Debian before diving in 
head first. =)
