It is packaged yes, but the version packaged is really really old.
Current upstream version is 1.8.5. Currently packaged version (1.5.6)
is not enough to complile latest programs in Arduino (such as Marlin
Firmware). This situation makes current package somehow unusable. So
any help packaging the latest version would be more than welcome.

Sadly, I agree that arduino is not a simple package. However we got
stuck when trying to package the latest version due to some of its
dependencies. Maybe some of them are simple enough for a novice
maintainer. Some of our struggling can be seen in this bug [1]. I'm
sorry, but right now I'm unable to involve further on this. Ignacio and
Geert (both on CC) will probably be able to give you more details.
