Hi,
I always wanted to make more progress on packaging NGspice for the main
repositories in Debian but I didn't get enough time yet to get all the
things in place to have coexisting packages in main and non-free.
Looks like this will getting much easier in the near future as NGspice
itself is moving forwards to get clean in the meaning of the DFSG.
Recently some adjustments where made to get rid of the remaining non
DFSG conform licenses like SPIDER, ECL1.0 and CIDER. This will all
happen with a new version 28 of NGspice.
This will make it a lot easier to move the source package ngspice from
non-free to main instead of creating a new source package which need to
have adjustments within the source package in non-free to get coexisting
binary packages in the archive.

In detail there are the following commits which reflects the changes
that are the interesting ones for us.
https://github.com/imr/ngspice/commit/8324b0f646f224f81c4008699267e8e4cf33c51f
https://github.com/imr/ngspice/commit/9698c3943c0dc1ca87f1b11f2e694599fd1c4c29
https://github.com/imr/ngspice/commit/09e3e76c71e626018b958e958ba4ccc9ff312f67
This is motivating me to take again a look into all within the next
weeks again once I got managed to upload KiCad 5.0.0 RC2 into
experimental or unstable finally.
I haven't asked upstream about some release planning about NGspice 28
but will do this soon.
