Below is an e-mail that was received at arduino at packages.debian.org. It
suggests/asks for something that might be needed to be taken into
consideration.

Subject: Arduino IDE version
User-Agent: NeoMutt/20170113 (1.7.2)

To whom it may concern:

The 'arduino' package is severly outdated in the Debian repositories
(including that for testing), and it is causing new users of the IDE
platform extra headaches due to the changes between the version
available on all Debian releases (1.0.5) and the current "stable"
version available directly from the Arduino developers.

Is it possible to get this package either removed from the debian
repositories or updated to be more in-line with the developer's "stable"
version?

Best regards,
Dan
