Thanks for the pointer.  I don't think it likely that lepton-eda will
get updated before buster release unless someone volunteers to come up
with a patch.  The last time I talked to upstream about it (when I was
finalizing the packaging) they seemed unconcerned about being on 2.0
indefinitely.  I'll poke them again.
