Maybe we should just remove the symbols file, I found several pages 
suggesting not to ship symbols file for C++ shared libs, including the 
policy manual: 
"However, maintaining exhaustive symbols information for a C++ library 
can be quite onerous, so shlibs files may be more appropriate for most 
C++ libraries." [1]
