Thanks for looking into this.

The README has not changed since the previous snapshot. So
unfortunately, this is not a typo. Lack of funding has delayed this
work for a whole decade! The other information in it is essentially
correct.

The version number does now reflect the date, and I will remove it from
the README file.

NB: I have reverted the debian-specific soname from the subsequent
release and packaging attempt (1:20230520-dev-1). I believe this should
be dealt with upstream, not at all, or once the package enters testing.

NB2: Somehow there is an epoch involved in the package version. To me
this seems to be a mistake. I'd love to remove it, but I'm not sure if
this is permitted.
