Hi Sean,

There, I've implemented these changes!  If you have time, would you
please take a look at the package, then tag and upload it if it looks
good?  If you're super busy I can ask Gianfranco to take a look at it,
but I'm not sure if LISP is something that interests him.

When I asked #emacs (on Freenode, iirc) what options were better than
(shell command) for using helper programs to open files, they
recommended dropping muse-el and switching to org-mode...which
suggests it would be a more productive use of spare time to work on
org-mode.  In light of this, I used made minimal changes plus some
extra safety bits suggested by Kevin Ryde in an ancient bug.
