Update: it looks like installing without a previous couchdb install works fine,
but upgrading from 0.11.0-2 to 1.0.0-1 doesn't go cleanly. You need to hard
kill the server (reboot or `killall -u couchdb`) and start it back up again. My
gut says that the init.patch isn't covering some case around upgrading;
probably something like the pid file is getting rm'd before the init script
gets a chance to read it.

I will take a look at this more tonight, but am currently considering this a
blocker for uploading 1.0.0-1. If anyone gets a chance to look at it earlier
then let me know, or ping me on IRC/IM.

Cheers,

p.s. In the midst of transitioning to sam at sbisbee.com for e-mail, so sorry if I
break your mail client's threading mechanism. E-mails to
sbisbee at computervip.com will still be received, but might have a delayed
response.
