server name issue with passwd.client

This was a problem I ran into this week as I was setting up exim on my laptop using my school's smtp as a smarthost entry. Basically if the server uses a CNAME to "forward" the connection to a different host, the generated conf file (with all those extracts, etc.) searches for the connected host name (the CNAME). The AUTH will then always fail since no entry is present. If it could also search passwd.client for the actual smarthost entry as well it would work better? This would also work well if a organization is changing the CNAME to which their main smtp points to? What do you think.
