How were these messages injected? SMTP, or /usr/lib/sendmail?

I would like to see the output file written by update-exim4.conf
--keepcomments --output some.file. Please make sure to remove any
passwords from the output before e-mailing.

The corrupt spool format looks suspiciously like an upstream bug :-(
