Bug#362236: exim4-base: exim4's default settings throttle local connections (e.g. fetchmail)

Package: exim4-base
Version: 4.50-8
Severity: minor

Hello,

The default exim4 settings (i.e., the stuff an average user
won't be tweaking) result in quite a lot of delays for local
deliveries.

Here are some example log messages received when I fetchmail
a large quantity of messages:

2006-04-12 19:36:44 1FTkCq-0002cI-IR no immediate delivery: more than 10 messages received in one connection

2006-04-06 23:33:06 rejected MAIL command H=localhost [127.0.0.1]: too many messages in one connection
2006-04-06 23:33:06 SMTP call from localhost [127.0.0.1] dropped: too many nonmail commands (last was "RSET"

I can get root and runq to solve the issue (oh,
incidentally, with exim3 couldn't I bung someone in the mail
group to use mailq and runq?)

Thanks,
