This bug report has evolved into an unmaintainable horrible mess. A
lot of the issues mentioned herein may be unrelated. I am in the
process of moving the different issues to dedicated bug reports.
Please look at the bugs that are blocking this one and only add
information if you are sure that you are experiencing the same issue
that is mentioned in the blocking bug report. If in doubt, please file
a new, unrelated report.
