If you can still reproduce this, please try
swaks --pipe "exim -d -bh 10.11.12.13" --from somewhere at example.org --to zugschlus@<some-domain>

with <some-domain> being a domain that your local exim is not
explicitly configured to relay for, for example zugschlus.de.
