There is also the alternative of using git-import-dscs, which takes
snapshots from snapshot.debian.net and imports all Debian versions
that are found there. That way, the git history is a lot shorter than
it would be when importing svn history, but this fits a git workflow
better than the svn history.

That way, we'd need to keep svn around for reference if someone wants
to see every little commit, but it is much less work. I have actually
never needed to revisit a historic repository with smaller granularity
than a Febian upload.
