De nombreuses études scientifiques dont : LOS ANGELES Atherosclerosis study .J.H. Dwyer et col. Oxygenated Carotenoid Lutein and progression of early atherosclerosis. The Los Angeles Atherosclerosis Study. Circulation. 2001; 103: 2922-2927. ont montré que la Lutéine joue un rôle indispensable dans la santé du système cardiovasculaire,

particulièrement dans la protection des lipoprotéines HDL, LDL contre leur oxydation impliquée dans l'athérogénèse.

Une supplémentation en Lutéine pendant 8 semaines chez des souris apoE-null a entraîné 44% de réduction de lésions aortiques athéromateuses par rapport au groupe contrôle.
