Backporting should be possible without (or just tiny) adaptions.

security support in bpo needs to provided by the bpo-maintainer,
debian-security does not cover it. For embargoed issues the
security support will therefore be delayed by at least a day.

Taking a look at the exim backport for oldstable[1] you will note that
backporting of 4.89-2+deb9u2 and 4.89-2+deb9u3 was delayed much longer.
The reason for that is a simple one, I forgot. :-(
