Bug#1081253: closed by Andreas Metzler <ametzler at bebt.de> (Re: Bug#1081253: exim4-config: Upgrage exim4-config (4.96-15+deb12u5) reset dc_local_interfaces)

Thanks for that. I'd suggest the man page for this is somewhat lacking
in detail:

dc_local_interfaces
List  of  IP addresses the Exim daemon should listen on.
If this
is left empty,  Exim  listens  on  all  interfaces.  Sets
  macro
MAIN_LOCAL_INTERFACES only if there is a non-empty value.

vs:

dc_local_interfaces
List  of  IP addresses and port numbers the Exim daemon
should listen on.

              of the form [<ip address>]:<portno>;[<ip
address>]:<portno>;... **

If this is explicitly set to empty
(dc_local_interfaces='')  Exim  listens  on  all  interfaces.

If this is not explicitly set, a default using localhost
will be used.

Sets  macro MAIN_LOCAL_INTERFACES only if there is a
non-empty value.

(I suspect the above is not the full story , it's what I've gleaned
though trial an error)

**Poor meta syntax  on my part since '[' is literal while '<' is meta
syntax ... I'm guessing there is a better "house style"
