(1) exim 3 is completely different from exim 4. Some knowledge can be
    transferred, but not all of it. Please be very careful when doing
    stunts like this.
(2) localhost is implicitly added to dc_local_domains, that setting is
    redundant.
(3) I'd use an FQDN for the local host name.

Please verify whether your dc_readhost is still set as claimed in the
/etc/exim4/update-exim4.conf.conf you posted in your first message.
