This looks to me that your fetchmail is polling from lyra and the
continues to deliver back to lyra. As you say, your local host has
exim 4.50, while the SMTP server your fetchmail is talking to has exim
4.52.

Yes, it does not look like your local mail server is even involved.

Can you telnet to 127.0.0.1 port 25 and say what's the banner of the
local daemon?

The SMTP server your fetchmail talks to is most definetely not running
the exim4 packages that come with Debian sarge.

So you need to set up your fetchmail to deliver to hostname.vtc.server.
