Thanks Jens,

Yes I have run update-exim4.conf. I did that after I posted the initial 
message, still I keep getting messages rejected.
Is it necessary to both run update-exim4.conf and restart? I have been 
but some stuff I read implied it was unnecessary.

Can anyone point me to a description of valid values for 
MESSAGE_SIZE_LIMIT ?

All examples I found use xxM are other values (like "k" or "G") legal? 
Is there an absolute miximum value
Is 0 still a valid value?
