For 4.69 with split configuration copy

/etc/exim4/conf.d/transport/30_exim4-config_remote_smtp_smarthost

to

/etc/exim4/conf.d/transport/30_exim4-config_remote_smtp_smarthost.rul

and place the interface option at the end of the remote_smtp_smarthost:
section.
