Thank you guys! You helped me out pretty good! Now things are clearer. The script update-exim4.conf reads the update-exim4.conf.conf and generates the macros and puts them in the generated configuration. And when I like to define more macros, I simply add them to update-exim4.conf.conf. Bye bye Léon
