[Pkg-exim4-users] no such file

I'm getting the following error message: "exim paniclog 
/var/log/exim4/paniclog on localhost has non-zero size, mail system 
might be broken". Only problem is there is no such file:

[holtzm at localhost]~$ ls -a /var/log/exim4
.  ..  mainlog

I'm running exim4 4.69-2 on ubuntu 8.04.

Any ideas? Pointers appreciated.
