Hi, I'm setting up a light weight exim4 just for local use.
<devon-debian> (192.168.1.3) <->switch--- rest of network.
i have been succesful in sending mail from thunderbird(192.168.1.89) as
well as receiving it(a particular mda handling pop).
I have not setup anything special than use dpkg-reconfigure exim4, chose
it as internet mail system, not using a smarthost.. and I'm stuck on a
single issue.
My main issue is I'd like a small embedded device to send logs by
e-mail. (a dns321 if it helps) But this device's messages get dropped..
"devon:~# exim4 -bh 192.168.1.5
**** SMTP testing session as if from host 192.168.1.5
**** but without any ident (RFC 1413) callback.
**** This is not for real!
>>> host in hosts_connection_nolog? no (option unset)
>>> host in host_lookup? no (option unset)
>>> host in host_reject_connection? no (option unset)
>>> host in sender_unqualified_hosts? no (option unset)
>>> host in recipient_unqualified_hosts? no (option unset)
>>> host in helo_verify_hosts? no (option unset)
>>> host in helo_try_verify_hosts? no (option unset)
>>> host in helo_accept_junk_hosts? no (option unset)

LOG: SMTP command timeout on connection from [192.168.1.5]
421 devon: SMTP command timeout - closing connection
"
^ exim4 -bg 192.168.1.89 would show the same output..
I'm using a small little dns central server calle nslu2 (192.168.1.2),
The domains are each master zones, one master for "dns321" and one
master for devon.local.
I was looking at the options and have been trying to disable host_lookup
or exception rules so that the dns321 name (i believe dns321 is not
fulfilling security requirement in having a localpart of a domain name)
or ip address can pass unconditionally..
Dns321 has a reverse-ip add record..
I know there's exim-users mailing list from exim4.org, but I'm wondering
if there's something 'debian' about
the exim4-daemon-light package that i'm not getting.
"exim4 -bP recipeint_unqualified_hosts" and -bp host_lookup is null
Any rtfm I should look into?
What can I use to disable the validation of smtp senders?
(tcpdump shows me there's smtp communication, and i also check exim4 -bp
shows empty queue)
I'm guessing my dns321 is acting like it needs to be authenticated
unlike thunderbird..
I know this sounds very stupid, but please bare with me, I'm really new
to this..
Thank you for any reply, greatly appreciate it..
