After skimming spec.txt quickly for indication that the literal "IPv4"
here might have a special meaning here, I am now reasonably sure that
this will just try to route the message to a host named "ipv4" in DNS.

Where did you get the impression that the string "IPv4" would trigger
some special behavior?

One can of course put the current IPv4 address of the target MX in
there for the domains in question, but that's going to break should
the domain owner ever changes their MX.
