It is probably not nereally necessary to build from the Upstream
source. There is a Debian source package which can be used as a starting
point, the resulting binary packages can be a drop-in replacement.

Pardon my ignorance, but is ARC a feature that is present in the release
sources and just needs to be enabled, does one need to use sources from
a git branch or is there a patch that needs to be applied to the
sources?

Building a Debian source package is not very complicated, and changing
the package before building shouldn't be either. The EDITME handling we
do in the package is a bit hairy, but should be solveable to somebody
who is willing to run an MTA on the Internet.

I am willing to help limited by the amount of available time. What kind
of help do you need?

Greetings
Marc
