No, this doesn't work - it panics, too.
If it did, it would be a workaround ... although I had something like
auto-logon for the various X-servers and different users.
Currently I have to logoff the current user, and login as another - which is
*much* worse than just hitting CTRL-ALT-Fx (or using the "switch user"
button).

Well, that would defeat the idea of putting a dedicated 3D graphics card into
the machine - I wanted to get a few more fps.
BTW, I got a panic on alien-arena, too - when it tried to switch the video
mode on startup.

Versioning your /etc, /home or even your whole installation?
Try fsvs (fsvs.tigris.org)!
