i'm curious as to why the automatically generated autoconf files were
restored.  they are unnecessary, since debian/rules runs autoconf
at build time; thus automatically regenerating those files anyway.  i
tested and verified that the man pages were indeed built correctly
after my changes.  you can also verify that they are unneeded by running
"make maintainer-clean".
