[Pkg-fglrx-devel] [RFC] module build

Hi,

1) I just added a patch to SVN that adds support for building the module
for a linux-image-*-amd64 kernel on i386. See #636055
The module builds fine, but I have no idea whether the 32-bit userspace
fglrx-driver will cooperate with a 64-bit kernel module.
For nvidia, we have this build working for a long time, but I don't know
if anyone actually uses such a kernel + nvidia.

The patch is currently in a branch, but can be easily cherry-picked back
into head.

2) I'd like to resurrect the fglrx-source package (for usage with
module-assistant). dkms is not the ultimate solution that can replace
module-assistant completely. Without that "controllable" build system
above patch would not have been possible.
Default is and will stay dkms, but the admin can opt out by installing
his locally build module packages (and take responsibility for keeping
them in sync).
A working version is in svn: branches/resurrect-fglrx-source

If you agree, I'll merge this into the multiarch branch so that one
upload to NEW will be enough.

Andreas
