[Pkg-fglrx-devel] RFC: PX fglrx-driver support

Hello list,

in the past and with the current packaging it is necessary to divert
libGl from mesa with the fglrx variant in order to have got a working
fglrx setup.

Now since 11-5 AMD adds support for "dynamic" driver loading, so that
you are e.g. able to use your integrated PX AMD card OR your Intel GPU.
For this behaviour it is still necessary to divert the libGl (with a
symlink to the fglrx variant or the original driver). AMD provides a
switchscript which could be executed and which sets all necessary links,
going deeper in those new specifications would be too much for this thread.

So I want to ask you now:
Would it be possible and conform with our policies if we add an init
script for fglrx-driver, which diverts on start libGl (if enabled) and
removes the divert on stop?
This would have the following pros:
a) fglrx could be installed, but does not have to be used
b) dealing with symlinks will break X11 sessions, if mesa gets an update

What do you think?

Always if we think we are right,
we were maybe wrong.
