Hi fglrx package developers,
I've been unsuccessful at getting fglrx-driver (1:14.9+ga14.201-2)
working on debian jessie for a few days now. When the driver is
installed and loaded in the kernel and I start gdm3 I get hung pc
shwoing a black screen with a white cursor in the left corner. I cannot
login with ssh or get shell with ctrl-alt f1. Even worse, the hang
leaves no logs in systemlog, Xorg.0.log, kern.log and messages. I've
confirmed this by deleting those files and starting gdm which hangs the
system, then rebooting into gdm which produces the same hang, and
finally checking the logs by hard rebooting into rescue mode. After all
this the logs are still not recreated.
However, I am pretty sure the driver is being loaded into the
kernel. If I delete the xorg.conf file generated by aticonfig --initial
-f, X doesn't load the right driver but will boot to the gnome frown
face and I can get into a shell though ctlr-alt f1. In kern.log I see

I've uninstalled fglrx and tried installing the latest upstream
version, AMD Catalyst Omega 14.12
<http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Linux+x86#>, and got
the same hung pc with white cursor. This makes me think this problem is
a upstream issue. I also noticed the latest version of the install does
not support building packages for Debian.
Other things tried:
I've tried rebuilding the fglrx-driver from source and got the same
hung pc.
I've tried rebuilding Xorg-server from source so that Xorg is built
with the same kernel headers as the driver got same hung pc. .
I've tried add 'nomodeset' to the kernel boot options and got same
result.

This bug seems to be different from #765109 since I'm getting a
total hung pc with no logs. Please let me know if I should open this
with a bug report or if there is anything else I should try.
Thanks,
Greg
