This is a bug in gs-common (#325598 & friends).

gs-common is not maintained? Perhaps mhatta is MIA. 2006-03-12 seems to
be his latest upload according to ddpo.

Indeed. It would also be nice to release etch with one copy of
ghostscript instead of the 3 forks, since upstream is merging them:
