Hello!

I want to suggest to you the packaging of the 'Tuffy Family' [0], which
is a set of four fonts (regular, bold, italic, bold-italic) created by
Thatcher Ulrich [1] and placed in the public domain.

I have already posted a WNPP bug for this package [2] and discussed the
'license' on debian-legal [3], because initially I was going to create
the package on my own. I had to realize that I do neither have enough
time at the moment (working on my diploma thesis) nor am I skilled
enough when it comes to fontforge scripting, etc.

On his webpage the author states that he has created the 'italic' fonts
by skewing the regular and bold fonts 12 degrees, so they are really
obliques. I tried to reproduce this but failed for the reasons mentioned
above. However, I still think it is the cleaner way to rebuild the fonts
from their sources [4] than using the TTFs from the tarball [5],
especially because DeFoMa seems to have problems with these TTFs:

'defoma-hints --no-question truetype /tuffy/*.ttf > debian/defoma-hints'
seemed to produce a vaild hints file. After installation of the package
it was imposible to select the regular font in both AbiWord and
OOo-Writer; only the bold, italic and bold-italic fonts were available.

However, you are the experts. Are you interested in packaging this set
of nice sans-serif fonts? ;)

Nice Greetings,
Fabian
