Hi Giovanni,
IMHO before considering an upload to the Debian archive we need to look
at the following issues:
- contacting upstream again about the maintainership of the font:
especially adding new glyphs or merging existing branches like
http://betatype.com/node/19
http://blog.opensyd.fr/public/fichiers/ubuntu-title-fr-1.1.ttf
http://nitrofurano.linuxkafe.com/linux/UbuntuTitle_0706252006.zip
At some point there was discussion of possibly using the Open Font
Library to pick up the community branches, merge them back and do new
releases from there...
But the key issue is:
- looking at the trademark/branding aspects and what it means for this
font because it is the visual identity of a family of products. AFAIK
some variations are allowed for LoCos (Local Ubuntu communities).
BTW, on the Debian side, we still have to resolve the problem of using a
non-free font for our logo. Oh, the irony :(
And concerning the packaging:
- no need for a debian tag
- it would be good to have a README/FONTLOG too.
I've been in touch with the upstream designer of Ubuntu-title and other
people in the Ubuntu community around fonts and I will mail them about
this again. So I guess the best is to wait and see.
